Abstract :
This research entitled "An Analysis Of The Swear Words Used in Uncut Gems Movie" aims to analyze the types and functions of swearing used in the dialogue by the main character in the Uncut Gems movie script using a sociolinguistic approach. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods. This qualitative research focuses on understanding social phenomena from the perspective of the human participants in the study. A descriptive qualitative study uses a qualitative research approach to analyze the particular representation of people, places, or events in a context. This research data was collected from swear words uttered by the main character in the Uncut Gems movie script. Different types of swearing are employed in how the main character swears in Uncut Gems movie. 152 swear words are found in the movie uttered by the main character. The types of swearing in the movie can be classified into four. They are Epithet, Profanity, Vulgarity, and Obscenity. The second research is about the function of swearing. 144 functions of swearing are found in the movie uttered by the main character. There are abusive swearing, cathartic swearing, dysphemistic swearing, emphatic swearing, and idiomatic swearing. There are 152 swear words found in the movie uttered by the main character. 144 functions of swearing are found in the movie spoken by the main character
