Abstract :
In daily conversation, someone likes to mix or switch their native language with a foreign language
in communicating with other people. The ability of a person to use two languages at once is called
bilingualism. Code-switching and code-mixing are phenomena in bilingualism. This phenomenon
can be found on YouTubers, one of which is Dale Philip. Analyzing the types and factors of codeswitching
and
code-mixing is the aim of this research. This study used a descriptive qualitative
approach with the observation technique. The object of this research is Dale Philip's YouTube
videos. The data used in this study are Dale Philip's utterances. The results showed that the dominant
type of code-switching used by Dale Philip was metaphorical code-switching. I found 10 data that
are categorized as metaphorical code-switching. In addition, there are 6 data found related to
situational code-switching. 18 data were classified as insertion code-mixing. Then, there are 18 data
which are categorized as alternation code-mixing, and 3 data which are categorized as congruent
lexicalization. In addition, the factors that influence code-switching and code-mixing used by Dale
Philip are repetition and talking about a particular topic. I found 30 data related to repetition and 29
data related to talking about a particular topic. Thus, it can be concluded that Dale Philip mostly
uses code-mixing in his conversations.
