Abstract :
This term-paper is about code switching and code mixing used by all the characters in the
"Pinocchio" (2022) movie script. In this research, the research used an approach descriptive
qualitative. The data are utterances of all the characters in the ?Pinocchio? movie script. The research
results show that there are three types of code switching used by all characters: intra-sentential
switching, inter-sentential mixing and emblematic switching. There are six reasons for using code
switching and code mixing: talking about particular topic, quoting somebody else, being empathetic
about something: express solidarity, interjection: Inserting sentence fillers or sentence connectors,
repetition used for clarification, intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutor, and
expressing group identity. The dominant code used by all characters is intra-sentential switching and
inter-sentential switching. The characters in the ?Pinocchio? movie script use English language in
everyday communication, but because they are native Italians, they occasionally use Italian in
communicating.
