Abstract :
This study aims to analyse The Whale (2022) movie script?s by Samuel D. Hunter using intrinsic
and extrinsic approach. The intrinsic approach used is the concept of characterization through
showing methode, plot, and setting. Through the extrinsic approaches, it used a psychological
approach such as depression and eating disorder. This research used qualitative approaches, the data
is use the methode of data collection from the whale (2022) movie script by Samuel D. Hunter as
primary and supported by some related previous studies, books, journals, and articles as secondary
source. The result of this research are depression made Charlie as the main character to have eating
disorder because of losing somone his love by committing suicide and it effect him to vent his
depression and sadness into food by eating a lot, and become obese with a body weight reaching
around 600 pounds or 272 kilograms. The script of the movie The Whale (2022) written by Samuel
D. Hunter represents somone experiencing depression due to the loss of someone valuable and loved
who turns the depression into an emotional outlet for food by eating a lot as an outlet. The conclusion
of this study is how we should handle problems and be able to control emotions thus we will not be
controlled by various negative emotions that can make us experience depression and make us too
involved in emotions therefore, we could hurt and harm ourselves by carrying out negative actions
such as eating too much and become physically and mentally unhealthy.
