Abstract :
This research aims to find out the application of the types of adjacency pairs in the conversation between characters in ?Crazy Rich Asians? (2018) movie script. In this research, there are three main focus that will be analyzed, namely context, the classification of adjacency pairs, and the intention of the characters? utterance in ?Crazy Rich Asians? (2018) movie script. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive qualitative method. The object of this research is a movie script of ?Crazy Rich Asians? movie (20180, and the data used are the conversation between characters in the movie script. The results of this study are as follows, there are 93 data related to the type of adjacency pairs. 18 data are question-answer, 7 offer, 18 greeting, 5 suggestion, 7 assessment, 3 leave taking, 6 apology, 10 compliment, 9 command, and 10 announcement. Furthermore, every utterance of the characters has certain intention and meaning. This research helps the readers to understand the intentions and meaning of each character's utterances.
