Abstract :
This study aims to analyze figurative language in song lyrics using theories in semantics. The theories in semantics are used to analyze the true meaning and figurative language used in ?Planet Her? album by Doja Cat. This research used a qualitative approach. It is conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The research object is Doja Cat album ?Planet Her? song lyrics. The research data collected are from lyrics found in the album ?Planet Her?. The figurative language that I have analyzed is simile, metaphor, personification, metonymy, synecdoche, hyperbole, and litotes. Divided into each type, simile there are 8 data, metaphor there are 18 data, personification there are 8 data, metonymy there are 9 data, synecdoche there are 4 data, hyperbole there are 6 data and litotes there are 3 data. And the total data that has been analyzed is 56 data. Based on 7 types of figurative language, metaphor and metonymy are the most common types, while litotes is the least common types. After analyzing, true meanings from each data are finally easier to understand. Through the album, the songwriter wanted to convey messages, such as attraction to lovers, the desire to have each other, deep of love, and intimate relationships.
