Abstract :
This term-paper aims to analyze the directive utterances of the main character in the movie entitled
Greyhound using theories from Kreidler regarding to directive utterances and the intention of
directive utterances. The Greyhound movie script is set in the Second World War in Europe. This
term-paper is using qualitative method. The data collections was carried out by reading the movie
script then analyze every word of the main character, namely Captain Ernest. The result shows that
the intentions are command (124 data), request (22 data), order (3 data), asking (38 data),
suggestion (30 data), warning (18 data), and invitation (2 data). This research shows that
imperative sentences which contain command sentences are the dominant sentences uttered by the
main character and this is in accordance with the theme of the movie promoted by Greyhound
itself, which is about war.
