Abstract :
The aim of this research was to analyze how the misunderstandings occured in Us film. This was a 2019 American horror film written and directed by Jordan Peele, starring Lupita Nyong?o, Winston Duke, Elisabeth Moss, and Tim Heidecker. The film that told us about a terror from the menacing Doppelganger down there where a group of people had the exact same faces as the people that lived in the upper land and attacking people all over the city, the terror became a masive murder in Santa Cruz. The violations occured in the conversation between the characters because there were hidden meanings behind the utterances, this research contained maxim of quality, maxim of quantity, maxim of relation and maxim of manner. The method of the research was conducted qualitatively and implicated the violation of maxim on pragmatic theory by Grice to analyze the violations in this film. The result of this research showed that there were sixteen violations occured in the film entitled Us, 25% data of maxim of quality, 25% data of maxim of quantity, 37% data maxim of relevance, and 13% data maxim of manner.
