Abstract :
This thesis is written to prove that the picture of human's basic
anxiety and
sublimation can be found in a novel, represented by the main figure of the novel.
This strata-I thesis is based on a novel analysis and the assumption for the
analysis is THE REFLECTION OF THEORY OF ANXIETY AND CONFLICT,
AND SUBLIMATION. This strata-I thesis is conducted under qualitative research
methodology based on written data and supported with various relevant written data.
The analysis
i.e.
is divided
into two parts.
intrinsic approaches and extrinsic
approaches. The
intrinsic elements are consisted of analysis of characterization,
analysis of setting. and analysis of plot. The extrinsic elements are conducted through
abnormality psychology and personality psychology. Since there is only one main
figure in the novel, so both approaches are used to analyze the only single
figure
whose name is John.
Conclusion: from the analysis. it is proven that the main figure, John, has
anxiety
within himself due to conflicts of his dream and his reality. But he finds his ways to
sublime his dream until the time comes to visit him. (TS)
