Abstract :
Pandan Bay waters has been used in various fishing activities such as shrimp farming, pearl shell cultivation and floating net cages. The amount of such activity may affect the water quality in the waters. This research aimed to determine the nutrient content (ammonia, nitrate, nitrite and phosphate) to examine the relationship among parameters of water quality in the area of Teluk Pandan waters. Sampling was done within 15 stations using purposive method. Principal Component Analysis method (PCA) was used to assess the relationship among water quality parameters. Water samples were taken on the surface of the waters using a water sampler. The sample analysis was conducted in Oceanography and Instrumentation Laboratory of Marine Science Study Program of Sriwijaya University. The results showed that the average nutrient content in Pandan Bay waters ranged from 0,0111 – 0,0791 mg /L NH3-N for ammonia, nitrate ranged from 0,0007 – 0,0087 mg /L NO3-N, nitrites ranged from 0,0001 - 0,0062 mg /L NO2-N, and phosphate ranged from 0,0012 – 0,0091 mg/L PO4-P. In general the quality of Padan Bay waters is still goog for the life of aquatic biota. The correlation that is direcly and inversely proportional to the parameter group showed the result of the analysis using the PCA method. The correlation is directly proportional to the quadrant parameter group I (temperature, salinity, current and phytoplankton abundance), quadrant II (DO, pH and nitrate) and quadrant III (ammonia, nitrite and phosphate). The correlation inversely showed by the parameter group in quadrant I against the parameter group in quadrant III.
