Abstract :
In Indonesia there are several provinces that have chili production the
consumption needs of the Indonesian people with one of the provinces namely
South Sumatra. The prices of cayenne pepper in South Sumatra province has
different each district or city from the highest to the lowest and the price
fluctuation never stable every year. With these conditions, this study study aims to
analyze the price elasticity of demand for cayenne pepper in South Sumatra. The
data used is secondary data from the Indonesian Statistics, and National
Socioeconomic Survey. The analysis technique uses multiple linear regression
with the Cobb-Douglass production function. The variables were observed in
this study is the price of cayenne papper, harvested area, income per capita and
demand for cayenne pepper. The results show that the price of demand for
cayenne pepper has not effect on the chili itself because its value is 1.469 which
mean it is elastic (E > 1), namely the harvested area is -0,667 (E < 1) and
income per capita is -2,285 (E < 1).
