Abstract :
Research on optimization of copper (Cu) extraction in a sulfide mineral sample with 8-hydroxyquinoline extractant in chloroform has been carried out. The sulfide mineral sample was obtained from East Sumba Regency. This study aimed to determine the optimum conditions of formation of Cu-Oxinate complex which include pH and oxine concentration. The effect of Fe interference on the efficiency of Cu extraction from the sulfide mineral sample was also carried out. Solvent extraction was used as the method of extraction, and the content of extracted Cu was determined using UV-Visible spectrophotometry. The variables used to determine the optimum conditions were wavelength which ranged from 400-700 nm, pH which ranged from 2 to 12, the concentration of oxine which ranged from 10-5 to 10-1 M, the interference effects of Fe with concentration ranging from 50 to 1000 µg/mL, and extraction of Cu from the sulfide mineral sample without precipitation of Fe and with precipitation of Fe using NaOH. The results showed that the optimum conditions for extraction of Cu using chloroform as the solvent with oxine complexes were at a wavelength of 410 nm, at pH 5, with oxine concentration of 0.1 M and Fe interference of 900 µg/mL. The content of extracted Cu without the precipitation of Fe was 1597.5 ?g/g, and 1405 ?g/g with the precipitation of Fe.
