Abstract :
This the study is entitled ?A STUDY ON READING COMPREHENSION ABILITY OF ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMAN 7 KUPANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2015/ 2016?. It aims at answering two questions; 1.Are the eleventh grade students of SMAN7 Kupang able to understand the text they read or not?. 2.What is the level of their ability?. The objectives of this study are as follows; 1. To know whether the eleventh grade students of SMAN 7 Kupang able to understand the text they read or not, 2. To know the level of their ability. Descriptive method is the method used to analyze the data and describe the result of the study based on the data gathered. The subjects of the study were the eleventh grade students of SMAN 7 Kupang. There are 23 students taken from one class, they are the language class . The total number of students in language is 23,so the writer took them all as the subjects of the study. The instrument used for gathering the data was a test. The test was multiple choice test and essay test. The total test items were 20 items. Based on the result of the data analysis of this study it can be concluded that 1. the eleventh grade students of SMAN 7 Kupang are able to understand the text they read and 2. their ability level is ?very good? (86.52%). In fact 1(4.35%) student got excellent 6(26.08%)student got fairly good,11(47.82%)student got good,and 5(21.74%)student got very good. Although the student?s ability level as a class is good, the writer suggested that both the teacher and the students should pay more attention in comprehending the reading text by doing more exercises continuously both in the class and at home.by doing so, the student?s ability might be better.
