Abstract :
This study is entitled An Analysis of Grammatical Error in Writing Recount Text of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMAN 5 Kupang in the School Year 2018/2019. This study was conducted to answer the following questions: (1) What are the kinds of grammatical errors committed by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 5 Kupang in the school year 2018/2019 in their recount text writing. (2) What is the most common error committed by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 5 Kupang in their Recount text writing? Based on the problem stated above the objectives of this study were as follows: (1) To find out the kind of grammatical errors commited by eleventh grade students of SMAN 5 Kupang in writing recount text. (2) To find out the most common error committed by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 5 Kupang in the school year 2018/2019. The subjects of this study were the eleventh grade students of SMAN 5 Kupang, Especially students of Natural Science Program (IV). In Natural Science Program Class there were 20 students who participated in this research. The method applied in this study was descriptive method and the instrument used was writing recount text and the students were asked to choose one topic out of three: My impressive Experience, My Memorable Experience, and Funny Experience. The writer used surface strategy taxonomy to analyze the students? errors which consit of (1) there were 4 kinds of grammatical errors commited by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 5 Kupang in the school year 2018/2019 such as a) omission, b) addition, c) misformation, and d) misordering (2) the most common error commited by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 5 Kupang in their recount text writing is misformation. The results of the study showed that the total number of Errors was 102. Error in omission is 23 or 22,54%, in addition is 10 or 9,80% total error in misformation is 62 or 60,78% and total error in misordering is 7 or 6,86%. The suggestions are as follows. The teacher is recommended to pay more attention on the students? , stucture of past tense and how to make a good recount text. To the students, the students are recommended to study more about structure of past tense and how to make a good recount text.
