Abstract :
This research is about an analysis toward that the object focused in a classic novel
entitled as ?The Count of Monte Cristo? by Alexandre Dumas. The aim of this
research is to find the phenomena of moral and philosophical aspects contained in
novel. This research applies the method of qualitative research based in library
research. The data sources came from primary data, that is the novel ?The Count of
Monte Cristo? by Alexandre Dumas, and secondary data that came from numerous
sources such as, supporting documents. This research applied Moral Philosophical
approach by Dr. Samuel Johnson. By applying his approach, the researcher found the
results that: there are moral and philosophical values contained in ?The Count of
Monte Cristo? by Alexandre Dumas. These values reflected by the protagonist of the
story, Edmond Dantes, regarding about the Values of Being are which consisted of
honesty, courage, peaceability, self-reliance and potential. There are also Values of
Giving that consisted of royalty and dependability, love, unselfishness and sensitivity,
kindness and friendliness, and the last justice and mercy and Moral Philosophical.
There are eight moral values and one philosophical value found by the researcher in
the novel ?The Count of Monte Cristo?. With all of the data the researcher then
concludes that the novel ?The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre? Dumas indeed
contains moral and philosophical values.
