Abstract :
Tradition of petik laut in the village of Sumberanyar Probolinggo regency is a tradition that still exists to this day, because the majority of people there work as fishermen. To preserve these traditions, then the government, performed the usual seafar ceremony conducted when there is a cost and there is cohesiveness of the community. The formulation of the problem to be answered in this research is the question about what is the symbolic meaning of sea ceremony in Sumberanyar village, Paiton, Probolinggo. The theory used in this research is the interactionism symbolic approach of George Hebert Mead. The method used in this research is field by collecting observation data and interview. Sources of data used are the informants involved and understand about the tradition, the community, the figures, as well as from books that support the research. While the data analyst meode using qualitative method. From the research results can be concluded that the tradition of petik laut in Sumberanyar village implemented to commemorate the tradition of ancestors and as entertainment for the community so that the tradition is maintained its sustainability.
