Abstract :
This research analyzes the representation of javanese women in film
Habibie dan Ainun directed by Faozan Rizal. The purpose of this study is to
describe the representation of Javanese women in film Habibie dan Ainun. The
scope of the study is cultural study by using Semiotic in Charles Sanders Pierce?s
theory. The limitation is representing the pictures and the dialogues in film
Habibie dan Ainun that shows the culture of the Javanese women. This research
shows that the female figures in the films Habibie and Ainun are represented as
women who still adheres to a patriarchal culture. Ainun's figure is described as a
figure that cannot be separated from the house as a domestic area.
The theory on semiotic analysis is based on Charles Sanders Pierce such as
sign, object, and interpretant, the theory about the concept of representation
meaning. This research was qualitative and descriptive with analysis all gesture,
facial expression, and costume, which described representation in this film. The
concept in this study divided into three concepts they are: the theory of semiotic,
second is the concept of representation, and the last is the concept of film
semiotic.
The study uses the qualitative method which the aim is to researched
semiotic analysis in Javanese Women. Therefore, the instrument are used to
obtain the data observation. After the data are collected, the following steps are
done, those are: (1) Research Design; (2) Data Source; (3) Data Collection; and
(4) Data Analysis Method.
The result of this study shows that Javanese women in this film is describe
that women have three types of representation. Representation of Javanese women
as a loyality person, representation of Javanese women as a toughness and
resilient person, and representation of Javanese women as a smart person.
