Abstract :
This research analyzed Discrimination of Black people in 8 Mile Movie by Curtis Hanson. The purpose of this study is to find the meaning and discrimination described in 8 Mile movie. The scope of the study is cultural study by using Semiotic in Barthes?s theory. The limitation of this research is the scene, gesture, character, existing property, and the behavior of blacks, which described discrimination of black people in 8 Mile movie. The theory onSemiotic analysiswas based on Roland Barthes semiotic: Sign - Denotation - Connotation - myth, the theory about the concept of discrimination meaning that was based on Gordon W. Allport (1954). This research was qualitative and descriptive with analysis all movement, gesture, facial expression, costume, body shape which described discrimination in this movie. The finding showed that, Black people in this movie is described that black people have the negative stereotypes and presence three types of discrimination, namely cultural discrimination, economic discrimination, and social discrimination. This research hopes to give of thingking, and give significance to literature, literature as culture product.
