THE STATUS OF MADURESE GEOGRAPHICAL DIALECT IN PROBOLINGGO-BONDOWOSO-BANYUWANGI (A DIALECTOLOGY STUDY)

Abstract :
Madurese is a language that is used by Madura ethnic in their daily communication. Madurese is ranked fourth in the thirteen largest regional languages in Indonesia with around 13.7 million speakers (Lauder in Sofyan, 2010:207). So, this research intent to describe Madurese dialect used in Probolinggo-BondowosoBanyuwangi whether has same or different dialect, and aims to get the lexical differences of Madurese dialect in the three research areas. Also determine the status of Madurese dialect in Probolinggo-Bondowoso-Banyuwangi. This research is uses the theory that related with dialectology research. Dialectology aims to learn the language variation, and this research determine the three research areas with comparing based on geographical by making a dialectometry triangle. This research uses descriptive quantitative method and the data are derives from 829 glosses of Swadesh Morrish that developed by Nothover and modified by Kisyani-Savitri. Then, this research uses purposive sampling method to determine the research area and uses the interviewing method to collect the data. After completing the data, there are 175 glosses of lexical differences that analyzed by using dialectometry method. The three comparing research areas are namely Probolinggo-Bondowoso (1:2) with 107 total lexical differences, Probolinggo-Banyuwangi (1:3) with 162 total lexical differences, and BondowosoBanyuwangi (2:3) has totally 143 lexical differences. Then, the result of this dialectology research shows that in the three research areas have different dialect with the result: Research Area (RA) 1:2 has 61,14 % different dialect, Research Area (RA) 1:3 has 92,57 % different dialect, and Research Area (RA) 2:3 has 81,71% different dialect status.
