Abstract :
Speaking is one of language skills that should be mastered by every student to
be competent in communication. The researcher was interested to analyze of
students? speaking skill in introduction to others at seventh grade of SMP N 1
Rambah Hilir. The purpose of this research was to find out how the students?
speaking skill in introduction to others at seventh grade of SMP N 1 Rambah
Hilir. The research was done at seventh grade of SMP N 1 Rambah Hilir.
The methodology of this research was descriptive quantitative. The sample
were 29 students. To select the sample the researcher used cluster random
sampling. In collecting the data, the researcher used speaking test in form of
dialogue. In analyzing the data, the researcher used the components in speaking
they are: pronunciation, intonation, fluency, and accuracy. Components of
introduction to others they are: express greeting, introducing oneself or others, and
express parting.
From the analysis, it could be concluded that the students? speaking in
introduction to others at seventh grade of SMP N 1 Rambah Hilir was 51.28 in
fair category. It means that, the students were low in vocabulary, so the students
were difficult to pronounce word in English. Most of the students lacked of the
confidence to speak loudly and the students? fluency in speaking not optimal.
Most of the students understand to speak some contents, but they were not willing
to use it. Most of the students were lazy to practice in conversation.
