Abstract :
The purpose of this research was to find out the effect of Small Group Discussion technique on students?
reading comprehension in narrative text. This research was conducted in March until April 2019. The sample
used in this research was the eleventh grade students of MAN 1 Rokan Hulu. The number of the sample joined
in this research was 36 students. The researcher divided them into two classes such as control class who got the
conventional technique in learning reading comprehension on narrative text and experimental class who were
taught reading comprehension through Small Group Discussion technique. In this research, the researcher
conducted post-test only to find out the effect of Small Group Discussion technique toward on students? reading
comprehension. According to the test given, the researcher found that the students? post test mean score in the
exprimental class was 82,22, it was higher than the score in the control class which is only 63,61. Furthermore,
the sig. Value obtained is 0,007 < 0,05. It means that there is a significant difference of students? posttest means
score between the experimental and control group. On the other words, the Small Group Discussion Technique
had a significant effect on students? reading comprehension of the narrative text in the eleventh grade of MAN 1
Rokan Hulu.
