Abstract :
The objectives of this study entitled Napoleon as a Machiavellian in George Orwell's Animal Farm are (1) to explain the Machiavellian ways done by the main character Napoleon in obtaining the power, (2) to describe the Machiavellian ways done by the main character Napoleon in retaining his power.To formulate the analysis, the writer uses library research including the internet browsing to support the data. The main data is taken from novel of Animal Farm.The theory of character, characterization, Machiavelli, abusement, power abuse,physical abuse, and discriminatory abuse are used to analyze the data.Furthermore, the approach used in this research is sociological approach. In this research, the writer only focuses on the main character, namely Napoleon as Machiavellian. He does some Machiavellian actions to obtain the power such as pretending to be a wise leader, brainwashing others to be loyal to him, expelling his enemy from the farm, stealing his enemy's idea, and making bad rumors on his enemy. After getting the power, Napoleon also does Machiavellian actions to retain the power such as manipulating the rules,discriminating the animals, using violence, propagandizing himself, and making others work for him.
