Abstract :
Literature is a means of communication with represents human's thoughts written language. There are three kinds of literature: fiction, which consists of short story and novel; drama and poetry. This thesis discusses Ralph Waldo Emerson's Transcendental Expression in His Selected Poems Entitled Brahma, The Park, and Loss and Gain.It focuses on two objectives of the study: first, to show Emerson applies the transcendental expressions in his selected poems entitled Brahma, The Park and Loss and Gain,second,to find Transcendental expressions presented through general meaning and detail meaning used in Emerson's selected poems entitled Brahma,The Park and Loss and Gain. The theories which are used in this study are the theories of Transcendentalism and general and detail meaning. Moreover, philosophical approach is taken to analyze the data. Then, library research including Internet browsing is used to find the Transcendental expression, general and detail meaning. The data of this thesis are phrases, clauses, and sentences that have relation with Ralph Waldo Emerson's Transcendental expression in his selected poems entitled Brahma,The Park, and Loss and Gain. The writer's reason in analyzing Emerson's poems is to present the connected between human with God by Emerson's poems, which has Transcendental expression. Transcendentalism itself was created by Emerson that happens in Romantic period. Those Emerson's poems based on his life, spiritual experiences, and teaches about good attitude to reach perfection along them life.The writer hopes that by reading this thesis, the readers are being able to understand more about believe in God in every hard situation that occurs in this life. Besides that, the writer also hopes that the readers will understand more about Transcendentalism.
