Abstract :
This research discusses errors in agreement and government. It deals with two problems, namely (1) the kinds of errors in agreement and government and (2) the degree of those errors. Next, this research is descriptive in nature, involving some steps :collecting, arranging, classifying, analyzing, and interpreting the data. The source of the data is the answer paper sheets of the first year students of SMK St.Bonaventura I Madiun. The population of this research is English sentences with the errors in agreement and government. To obtain the sample, this research applies total sampling. It means that all of the data are analyzed one by one. Further, errors in agreement and government found in the data are of various categories namely incomplete application, overgeneralization, simple addition, alternating form, agreement between possessive and reference and government. Incomplete application here is concerning subject- verb agreement in number and agreement with compound subject. According to the degree of error made by the First Year Students of SMK St. Bonaventura I Madiun in the Academic Year of 2008 - 2009 is errors on government over those on agreement. The total number of the items on government is 6, while the students making error on it are 15. The total number of the items on agreement is 32, while the students making error on it are 46
