Abstract :
The research focuses on the translating of Javanese lexion into English in Warung VOA program of Jawa Timur Television (JTV). There are two problems concerning the translating of Javanese, which is a culture bound language. The first is the ways of translating Javanese lexicons into English. The second is the meaning fidelity of the translation of the Javanese lexicons. Due to the problems discussed, the theories suggested in this research include translation processes, meaning shifts, and fidelity. The data of this research are Javanese lexicons and their English rendering presented in Warung VOA program of Jawa Timur Television (JTV). The method applied in this research is descriptive in nature. Further, the data are collected by applying library research. Then, the data analysis is performed to search the way of translating Javanese lexicons namely, (1) translating the idea of Source Language lexicon and (2) changing the lexicon with its equivalent in Target Language. Besides, the data analysis is also aimed to judge the meaning fidelity of the translation of the Javanese lexicons in English. The total number of the data is 54 Javanese lexicons in 45 sentences. All the data are analyzed one by one. In other words, total sampling is applied in this research. The result of the data analysis shows that 22 (40,7%) Javanese lexicons are rendered by translating the ideas of Source Language lexicons: 32 (59,3%) Javanese lexicons are translated by changing the lexicons with their equivalents in Target Language; 26 (48,1%) Javanese lexicons are translated faithfully into English, and 28 (51,9%) Javanese lexicons are translated into English with meaning shifts.
