Abstract :
This thesis discusses about Psychological, Social and Physical conflicts of the Main Character in Graham Greene's The Power and the Glory. It will answer three questions. First, what are the main character's psychological conflicts?Second, what are the main character's social conflicts? And third, what are the main character's physical conflicts? In this research, the researcher uses library research. It includes the internet browsing. There are two kinds of data: primary and secondary data. The primary data are taken from the novel, The Power and The Glory. The secondary data are taken from the biography of Graham Greene, the theories of character by Shipley and Kennedy, and the theories of conflict by Deutsch and Wall. There are some psychological conflicts suffered by the main character.The conflicts happen when he feels afraid of doing his duty as a priest, when he meets the woman he used to commit adultery, and when he meets his illegitimate daughter.He also faces social conflicts with some people he meets such as with Captain Fellows, the villagers, Maria, the mestizo, Padre Jose, and the woman in jail. Besides that, physical conflicts happen in his journey, namely conflict with his own mule and with unfriendly weather which has slowed him down. From the analysis, the writerfinds that there are so many conflicts faced by the main character. They also influence his life and causes him has conflicts with himself.
