Abstract :
This research discusses the meaning differences in two different texts, English and Indonesian. In this research, the researcher wants to study more about them by analyzing the meaning differences contained within Mocthar Lubis? Senja di Jakarta and its translation Twilight in Djakarta translated by Claire Holt, and their factors which cause the meaning differences. The source of the data used in this research is Mochtar Lubis? Senja di Jakarta and its translation Twilight in Djakarta translated by Claire Holt. The kind of research used is descriptive method. In doing the research, the research collects the after reading the content of the novel. Then, the research classifies the data and analyzes them. At last the researcher makes a conclusion based on the results of the analysis. The population of this research contains of 30 words in 28 sentences, so it is not too large in number to analyze. That is why, this study applies total sampling. The results of the study ore all of the data to be analyzed contain meaning differences. Besides, There are there factors causing meaning differences namely, incompetence (slip or carelessness) on the part of the translator, linguistic incompatibility between the two languages, and cultural values.
