Abstract :
The problem of this study entitled An Analysis of Miss Ley's Principles in William Somerset Maugham's Merry Go Round is what Miss Ley's principles are. In accordance with the problem, the objective of this study is to describe Miss Ley's principles. Furthermore, in collecting the data, library research and Internet browsing are used to form the conceptual data about principles in life then use it to find the relevant data in this novel. Beside that, philosophical approach is used to analyze the data descriptively. In Miss Ley's life, she has two points of view that become her principles. Firstly, she has a perception that marriage is a terrible thing.It is taken from her observation towards her friend's problems in marriage that have got problems because of adultery and the absence of love in marriage. Secondly, Miss Ley wants to help her friends for solving problems in their marriage although she is just as a spinster. Therefore, she can get a lot of experiences that support her perception about marriage.
