Abstract :
Daisy Miller is one of James' novel that talks about cultural gap. There are many cultural conflicts between American and European. The aims of the study are: (1) to discover the cultural differences in Daisy Miller, (2) to describe the view of the society towards Daisy Miller in Daisy Miller, (3) to explain the American culture as represented by Daisy Miller in Daisy Miller. The data corpus consists of all words, phrases, clauses and further discourse. They are in the form of dialogues. Meanwhile, in data collection, library research including internet, browsing is applied. Then, in this research, sociological approach is used. In this thesis, the study wants to discuss about the cultural differences between America and Europe. In Daisy Miller Henry James presents the Americans who has settled in Europe live in a luxurious life. It can be seen from their life style. They stay from one hotel to another and they like to hold parties. Daisy Miller is a visitor in Europe. She brings the pure American culture. The conflict appears when she considers to break the rules and norms in Europe. In that case, her pure American culture causes the contradiction from the society toward her. Her pure American culture are freedom, naturalness, and innocence. Daisy Miller considers that she has freedom to do what she likes without caring the opinion of the people.
