Abstract :
The purposes of this research are to describe the stress undergone by the main characters, the condition making the main characters get stress, and the influences of the stress on the main characters. Library method is done to find the underlying theories, namely the definitions of analysis, drama, character, main character, psychology, psychological conflict, psychological approach, and stress. The data are analyzed descriptively. This means the general concepts of stress is applied to the more specific details namely the main character's stress, in Arthur Miller's Death of Salesman. The stress undergone by Willy Loman, as the main character, is psychological and social stress. Psychological stress is caused by Willy's deep depression so that he turns to be unusual person. While, social stress occurs because of his changing attitude to hisfriends. The condition making the main characters get stress is frustration, conflict and pressure. The influence of the stress on the main character is a bad influence or bad effects upon the character. There is only one character in the story who suffers the bad effects, that is Willy Loman. Willy Loman is successful person in his young but turns to be unsuccessful one. This condition makes him stressed so that it influences his relationship to the other people around him: his friends and his loving family. Finally, this stress condition leads him suicide.
