Abstract :
Reading a literature is entertaining and useful because it will help the readers to gain more knowledge. It also brings the reader into a new life experience from the development of the characters. The most important thing is that through reading a literature, there must be some human values that can be caught from the story. Based on that reasons, the writer wants to analize a life story of Paul Morel in D. H. Lawrence’s Novel: Sons and Lovers with a statement problem is “What human values can be found in Paul Morel’s life?”. The scope of this thesis is on an analysis of human values in Sons and Lovers novel and focus on the published novel. The writer uses a reader response perspectives and is based her analysis with the theory of human values from Knickerbocker. The result of the analysis is that there are two human values that dominated in this novel, psychological values and social values. The first value is a psychological value which is based on the analysis of Paul’s relationship with hisself. And the second value is a conclusion from the analysis of social values from Paul’s relationship with Miriam and his mother. The sum up of her analysis, there are two human values that can be found in Sons and Lovers novel: life is a choice and life is a struggle. At the end, the writer hopes that this thesis will be useful for the next researchers who have a similar interest with a novel “Sons and Lovers”.
