Abstract :
Novel is one of the most required entertainments for many
?bookworms? around the world. Furthermore, novel translation has become a
fruitful source of investigation especially in the field of translation. The
translation techniques, therefore, are the interesting part to study.
Objective: To investigate the translation techniques used in translating Harry
Potter: The Half-Blood Prince into Pangeran Berdarah Campuran.
Method: This study employed a qualitative research method consisting of the
description, reduction, and selection stages. The research stage began by
observing both the Indonesian and English versions of the novel. After reading the
novel, the researcher gave notes on the page where the data were found. After
collecting the data, they were reduced to effectively analysed them. Then, the data
were examined and analyzed based on the translation techniques proposed by
Molina and Albir (2002).
Result: Based on the research findings, there were several translation techniques
are the most used by the translator in this thesis are modulation and addition. The
translator employed those techniques in order to achieve a good translation
product.
Conclusion: It can be concluded that the translator used several translation
techniques in translating Harry Potter: The Half-Blood Prince into Pangeran
Berdarah Campuran namely namely calque, literal translation, modulation,
addition, adaptation, and reduction.
