Abstract :
The Javanese script is a development of the Pallawa script, the name of the ruling dynasty in South Asia. The use of Javanese characters for communication or taking notes in ancient times. The writing media used are quite diverse. Usually using media, paper scripts, papyrus, inscriptions, metal, and others (Arifianto, 2016). However, along with the development of civilization and technology, the interest of the younger generation to learn to understand Javanese script is decreasing. The purpose of this study is to be able to determine the effectiveness of using the Template Matching Method. The test uses Carakan script and Numeric script in Javanese script. There are 30 data tested, 20 for character data and 10 data for numeric characters. From the data tested on the Carakan script, there were 16 correct answers and 4 incorrect answers with an accuracy rate of 80%. While for numeric characters there are 7 correct answers and 3 wrong answers with an accuracy rate of 70%. The total of this test found an accuracy rate of 76.7%.
