Abstract :
Knowledge and food handlers? behavior are the habits carried out by hygiene personalities for their cleanliness. food handlers must have basic knowledge about hygiene and sanitation and have health skills to prevent disease transmission. A poster is a visual medium that provides some information and stimulates sight senses. Counseling is a communication process that has a specific feature to communicate the innovations through education that has specific character to non-formal education systems. Previous researchers have proven that posters as a single medium are not effective in changing the behavior of food handlers. This research aimed to know the existing effect of poster media exposure on knowledge and sanitary hygiene behaviors on food handlers at campus areas in Jember. This research used a Quasi-Experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects were food handlers who sell at campus areas in Jember which amount to 78 people. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire, while the media used was posters with counseling. Data analysis used the Kolmogorov Smirnov normality test, if data was normally distributed will be continued with Paired T-test, while if the data was not normally distributed will be continued with Wilcoxon Sign Test. The average level of knowledge and behavior increased significantly. Knowledge level before intervention was 65.13% while after the intervention was 74,10% with a difference of 8,97% (=p,0,001). Behaviour level before intervention was 56,28% while after intervention was 65,26% with difference of 8,98% (p=0,001). There was a significant difference in the role of poster media with counseling toward knowledge level and behavior level.
