Abstract :
Translating nursery rhymes is not an easy task. The translator needs to consider the issue of equality in both the content and form of the song, as well as the harmony between the translated lyrics and the melody. This research analyses the equivalence of message and form in the translation of children's songs by treating the lyrics of children's songs as a poetry text. The method and ideology used in translating the songs also illustrate the quality of the translation as a result of the techniques, methods, and ideology applied in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability. The problem is the difference in the number of syllables needed to convey the message of the whole sentence and the availability of syllables in the melody. The method used is related to the translation method according to Newmark which emphasizes the target language. The results of the study show that nursery rhymes cannot be translated perfectly into the target language, especially those related to the lyrical message and intangible elements of the song, but the translator can translate them as close as possible to the target language by examining the correspondence of the words and the meaning of the song structure
