Abstract :
The present research aims to analyze the readability level of machine translation on tourism website https://www.roughguides.com/singapore/. A professional rater with over 12 years of experience in the translation industry was involved to assess the quality of translation from English into Indonesian. Readability metrics of Nababan (2010) was used as the parameter to assess the quality of the machine translation. The findings suggest that from seven (7) texts, four (4) texts were considered less readable, three (3) texts were considered unreadable. These findings show that Machine Translation cannot translate the tourism text based on context and Machine Translation fails to make the text more local and natural. Some detected causes include too literal translation and being unable to give alternative translation. This highlights the weaknesses in machine translation systems, providing insights for enhancing readability to optimize user experience and cross-cultural communication in the tourism industry.
