Abstract :
This study aims to determine the use of code switching by teachers and
students in English Classroom Activity. Sp ecifically, this study examines types of
code switching and factors which influence using code switching in English
classroom activity. This research was conducted through descriptive qualitative
method. The data collection method used in this research is the freely listen -seetalk technique, in which the researcher is not involved in the conversation (only
listening). The samples of the research consisted of one English teacher and
several students in English classroom activity. In order to gather the data, the
researcher used two instruments of research, they were: observation and
interview. Data collection techniques used in this study are observation and
interview. The types of code switching appearing in the classroom were observed
based on the theory proposed by Holmes (2013). The factors which influence
using code switching were observed based on the theory proposed by Holmes
(2001). Moreover, to interpret the data ga thered, the researcher analyzed them
through three steps of analysis, th ere are: organizing, classifying and explaining.
