Abstract :
Grice's cooperative principle explains that in a conversation, it is not uncommon to find
uncooperative utterances in ongoing conversations. This research aims to find utterances in
conversations that do not fulfill Grice's cooperative principle related to the rules of maxims used as
a guide to find the types of maxim violations in conversations contained in the movie script "Fresh"
(2022). This research uses the descriptive qualitative research method by carefully observing the
movie script "Fresh" and categorizing the types of maxim violations found. The results show data
on as many as 50 maxim violations found in the conversation. There are 22 types of violating
maxims of quantity, 16 types of violating maxims of quality, 6 types of violating maxims of relation,
and 6 types of violating maxims of manner. The violations indicate that the characters in the movie
script "Fresh" violate the maxims for the purposes of captivating attention, avoiding suspicion,
avoiding conflict, hiding secrets, avoiding comments, conveying feelings, gaining sympathy, and
exaggerating to achieve something by telling lies, deceiving, and pretending by delivering utterances
that are not in accordance with the cooperative principle in connection with maxims.
